Bank Accounts in the UAE

We help private clients, entrepreneurs and companies prepare to open a bank account in the UAE. We assess the client’s objectives, applicant status, expected transactions and source of funds, identify the appropriate type of account, prepare the document package and support communication with the bank.

In the UAE, an individual may open a personal account for everyday expenses, holding funds and managing personal finances, while a company may open a corporate account for transactions with customers, suppliers and contractors. The requirements relating to the applicant, supporting documents and evidence of activity differ between these account types, so the appropriate route should be determined before an application is submitted.

Personal or Corporate Account: Which Do You Need?

A personal bank account is intended for an individual’s own transactions. It may be used to receive income, pay everyday expenses, rent and other personal obligations, hold funds and make transfers within the limits of the selected banking product.

A corporate account is opened in the name of a registered company and is used for transactions connected with its business activities. The company receives payments from customers, pays suppliers and contractors, covers business expenses and conducts transactions in line with its declared business model.

A personal account should not be used as a permanent substitute for a company’s corporate account. Where the client intends to conduct business in the UAE, receive revenue under commercial contracts or make regular business payments, the correct structure should be determined in advance: an appropriate company, business licence and corporate banking product.

Why a Passport or Business Licence Alone Is Not Sufficient

Opening a bank account in the UAE involves a compliance review. The bank must identify the applicant and beneficial owners and understand the purpose of the account, source of funds, nature of the activity and expected transactions.

When reviewing an application, the bank considers not only whether the formal documents are available, but also whether the overall financial profile is coherent. For an individual, the relevant factors may include residency status, professional activity, source of income and expected transactions. For a company, the bank will assess the licence, ownership structure, business model, location of customers and suppliers, types of payments and the business’s economic connection to the UAE.

Company formation or obtaining an Emirates ID does not therefore result in automatic bank account approval. Each bank conducts its own review and makes a decision under its internal procedures and compliance requirements.

Personal Bank Accounts in the UAE

A personal account may be required for everyday life in the UAE, receiving income, paying rent and service providers, using a payment card, holding savings and managing personal expenses.

UAE residents with valid documents and a verifiable source of income generally have the most straightforward route. Depending on the bank and selected product, the review may take into account the visa category, employment or entrepreneurial status, the amount and regularity of income, residential address and expected account activity.

Certain banks may consider applications from non-residents, but the range of available products may be more limited and the documentary, source-of-funds and minimum-balance requirements may be higher. The viability of such an application should be assessed individually.

Corporate Bank Accounts in the UAE

A corporate account is essential for a company’s full operating activity. However, the bank reviews more than the company’s registration documents. It needs to understand what the business does, who owns and manages it, where its funds will come from and which countries, customers and counterparties it expects to work with.

The company licence, registered activities, owners’ experience, contracts, expected turnover and future payments should be presented as one clear and consistent structure. Where the business description conflicts with the licence or the documents do not explain the economic rationale for the transactions, the bank may request additional information or discontinue the application.

Preparation is particularly important for newly established companies that do not yet have their own transaction history. In such cases, the business profile may be supported by the founders’ professional experience, information about existing projects, preliminary arrangements, contracts, invoices, supplier and customer details, and other documents relevant to the particular model.

Documents That May Be Required

The final document list depends on the bank, account type and applicant profile. We prepare it after the initial assessment so that the client understands which information should be available before the application is submitted.

For a personal account, banks generally consider documents confirming identity, residency or visa status, residential address, professional activity, income and source of funds.

A corporate account application may require:

  • the company’s business licence and registration documents;
  • articles of association, memorandum of association and ownership structure details;
  • passports, visas and Emirates IDs of owners, directors and authorised signatories, depending on their status;
  • a resolution or power of attorney confirming authority to open and operate the account;
  • a description of the business activities and expected transactions;
  • agreements, invoices, bank statements and information about counterparties;
  • documents evidencing the source of funds and source of wealth;
  • evidence of the company’s address and presence in the UAE.

The bank may request additional documents and explanations. The final requirements cannot be determined solely from the name of the service or the company’s legal form.

How MANAR CAPITAL Supports Bank Account Opening

We begin by assessing the client’s situation: whether a personal or corporate account is required, which transactions are expected, the currencies and countries involved, who will send and receive the funds, and which documents can demonstrate the source of the money and the economic rationale for the transactions.

Following the initial assessment, we propose a possible route, prepare the document checklist and explain which information should be supplemented or brought into alignment before the bank is approached.

  1. Initial Assessment

    We clarify the applicant’s status, purpose of the account, expected transactions and available documents.

  2. Banking Profile Preparation

    We collect information about the client or company, source of funds, business model, counterparties, transaction geography and projected turnover.

  3. Document Package

    We identify the documents required for submission and the explanations that should be prepared in advance.

  4. Application and Communication with the Bank

    We support the review process and help respond to additional questions and provide the requested information.

  5. Completion of Bank Onboarding

    We support the client through to the agreed outcome within the scope of the selected service.

MANAR CAPITAL is not a bank and does not make the account-opening decision. The final decision, account terms, available currencies, fees, minimum-balance requirements and review timeline are determined by the selected bank after its assessment of the client.

Company, Residency and Bank Account

For an entrepreneur, the bank account is often part of a broader route. Before a banking application is submitted, the registration jurisdiction should be selected, Free Zone and Mainland options compared, a licence with appropriate business activities obtained, residency completed and the company documents prepared.

Where these matters are treated separately, it may become apparent only after incorporation that the company structure, licence or declared model does not correspond to the expected transactions. We therefore offer integrated support in which company formation, residency and preparation for bank onboarding are organised as one process.

How Long Does Bank Account Opening Take?

The review timeline depends on the bank, account type, client profile, company structure, completeness of the documents and whether additional checks are required. Straightforward applications with a transparent source of income or a clear business model may be reviewed more quickly. More complex structures, international activities and unusual transactions generally result in additional questions and document requests.

Before the engagement begins, we assess the circumstances and outline an indicative sequence of actions. We do not set a timeline on behalf of the bank or guarantee approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a bank account be opened immediately after the company is registered?

An application can be submitted once the necessary company documents have been issued, but the business licence alone is generally not sufficient. The bank reviews the company structure, activities, owners, source of funds and expected transactions.

Is a residence visa required to open an account?

The requirements depend on the account type, bank and selected product. UAE residency generally provides access to a wider range of solutions, but certain banks may also consider other applicant categories subject to additional conditions.

Can bank account approval be guaranteed?

No. The decision is made by the bank after reviewing the client. Professional support helps prepare the application correctly, reduce inconsistencies in the documents and respond to bank requests promptly, but it does not replace the bank’s compliance review.

Can a personal account be used for company transactions?

A personal account is intended for an individual’s own transactions. Commercial revenue and payments connected with company activity should be processed through a corporate bank account.

Can personal and corporate accounts be opened at the same time?

These matters can be managed within one overall route, but the applications are reviewed separately. For each account, the bank assesses the purpose, supporting documents and expected transactions.
